In this quick Photoshop tutorial, we will be learning how to copy a layer into another Photoshop document while keeping the layer in the same position.

Documents That Share The Same Image Resolution

Let’s say; I have two documents sharing the same image resolution. In this case both of these documents have the image resolution of 1080px X 1080px.

There are two layers in “Document A”, which are titled as “Low to Mid Poly” and “Layer 4” that I want to move to “Document B”.

To copy these layers to another document, all I need to do is, to select these layers and drag them into “Document B”, while holding down the “Shift” key on my keyboard. That’s it!

How to move layers between documents and keep their location when documents have different image resolutions

I created a new document with the resolution of 1200x630.

Now all we need to do is going to the document, that we want to copy the layers from. After selecting the layers, we’ll right click on them, and select the option labeled as “Duplicate Layers”.

When the following window appears, we can tell Photoshop to which document it needs to copy & paste these layers to. And that’s it!
