Which Call of Duty games have controller support?

If you're like me, who regularly goes back to playing campaigns from old Call of Duty games and wonder which titles officially support gamepads, here's a list of the games that have controller support. The main reason I'm writing this tutorial is that, since the release of the Steam Deck, I've started playing old games on it because I find it much more convenient and cozy that way, and I thought there might be other gamers out there in the same boat, so for your convenience, here is the list without further ado!

COD4 REMASTED, WİTH MY SHADİNGF, LİNK BELOW

  • Call of Duty: Modern Warfare (2007)*, Modern Warfare 2 (2009)*, Modern Warfare 3: No controller support at all. No gamepad UI prompts are available either. These games do not recognize that a controller is attached to your PC or Steam Deck's gamepad controllers. They are still playable, if you don't mind emulating keyboard/mouse movements by selecting Steam Deck's mouse/controller layout, but you'll need to make some button adjustments to make them properly playable. They work out of the box (Tested Wine Version: Proton Experimental). I'd also suggest going into the settings and activating mouse smoothing, in addition to lowering the mouse sensitivity all the way to the bottom. I should note, though, that this limits your reaction time significantly because you can't execute sharp turns. Anything higher than the base value I found to be too input-sensitive, and the camera moves way too quickly. It's not the best experience, honestly, but it gets the job done if you want quick or 1-hour sessions here and there.

  • Call of Duty: World at War: Offers gamepad support but has no aim assist. It might require different keys than usual to navigate through the menus.

  • Call of Duty: Black Ops: Offers gamepad support but has no aim assist. It might require different keys than usual to navigate through the menus.

  • Call of Duty: Black Ops II - up until today: Offers gamepad support and has aim assist.
  • *Since Modern Warfare and Modern Warfare 2 have been remastered, you can choose to play them over the originals, as they stay true to their original identity and have gamepad support out of the box.
  • *Please note that some of these games might not support gamepad functionality in multiplayer, co-op, zombie, or other modes. This list is curated with a focus solely on the campaigns.
  • Most of, if not all, of these games have Steam controller layouts/configs.
